wood choice
Oak - Quercus Robur L
With an oak floor from Wiking Gulve, you get a sustainable floor with all the natural properties of a solid wood floor in an engineered solution. Our oak has rounded edges, which highlight the width of the individual planks and the exclusive look of the floor. Oak is strong and durable, which is why oak has long been used for floor production. The planks are constructed in 3 layers with cross-laminated pine core. This construction makes the planks suitable for underfloor heating and reduces the wood's natural movements by up to 70% compared to traditional solid
plank floors.
Oak is one of the most used and valued wood types for floors – and for good reason. In addition to its classic and timeless appearance, oak is known for its high wear resistance and hardness. On the Brinell scale, which measures the wood's resistance to pressure, oak typically scores
around 3.5 - 3.7. This places oak as a hard wood type, suitable for both private homes and businesses where durability is required.

Maintenance
Oak is known for its high wear resistance and hardness. Suitable for both private homes and businesses where durability is required. Its solid hardness means that oak floors are resistant to daily wear and tear, pressure marks from furniture, and scratches from shoes.
Oak is therefore well-suited for high-traffic areas such as entrances, living rooms, and kitchens.
Depending on the surface treatment you have, there are differences in ongoing maintenance.

Oak floor with natural warmth and depth
Oak has a characteristic play of colours, ranging from light golden tones to deeper brownish and slightly reddish-brown hues. This natural variation is one of the reasons why oak floors feel both vibrant and timeless at the same time.
The wood's structure is distinct yet balanced, providing a harmonious expression that fits into both minimalist and classic interiors.
The gradings vary from calm, uniform surfaces to more lively expressions with visible knots and natural variations.
Nature and technical properties of the material
Oak is classified as hardwood and is known for its high durability and long lifespan. This makes oak floors suitable for both private homes and commercial environments with daily wear and tear.
The wood is naturally rich in tannic acid, which is part of its character, but also something to be aware of when using it. Contact with moisture or certain metals can in some cases cause dark reactions on the surface.
Therefore, it is always recommended to react quickly to spills and ensure proper surface treatment. The surface can either be oiled or lacquered – where oil enhances the wood's depth and structure, and lacquer provides a protective layer for the wood.

3-layer construction – stability in natural wood
All Wiking Gulve oak floors are constructed as 3-layer plank floors, where the wood's natural movements are controlled through a technically stable construction.
The middle layer is laid across the grain, which reduces the wood's movement by up to 70% compared to solid floors.
This construction makes oak floors particularly suitable for underfloor heating and rooms with fluctuating temperature and humidity.
The wear layer consists of carefully selected, high-quality oak with a thickness of 4 mm, which allows for repeated sanding and thus a significantly extended lifespan.
The result is a floor that combines technical stability with an aesthetic expression that only becomes more beautiful with time.

The wear layer is 4 mm as standard. Should the floor need to be refreshed with a sanding, you can expect the wear layer to be reduced by 0.5 – 0.7 mm with a standard sanding, due to the refreshing of the floor. If there are marks, stains, a desire to change the surface or other reasons for sanding, it may require a deeper sanding which further reduces the wear layer.

Oak belongs to the hardwood family and creates a wonderful atmosphere in the home. Oak is strong and incredibly durable. Oak is one of the most widely used and valued types of wood for flooring – and for good reason. In addition to its classic and timeless appearance, oak is known for its high wear resistance and hardness. On the Brinell scale, which measures wood's resistance to pressure, oak typically scores around 3.5 - 3.7. This positions oak as a hard wood, suitable for both private homes and commercial spaces where durability is required. The solid hardness means that oak floors are resistant to daily wear and tear, pressure marks from furniture, and scratches from shoes – especially if the floor is properly treated with oil or lacquer. Oak is therefore well-suited for high-traffic areas such as entrances, living rooms, and kitchens. At the same time, oak has a natural dense structure, which provides good dimensional stability and makes it less susceptible to moisture and movement in the wood over time. This makes oak suitable for both solid floors and engineered parquet floors. Oak floors are a safe choice if you want a combination of strength, durability, and classic aesthetics that can last for generations.
Oak is naturally very rich in tannic acid, which can cause blue-black marks if it comes into contact with moisture. It is therefore important to wipe up any spilled liquid if the surface is not sealed, for example, by lacquering.
If the floor is supplied oiled, it is important that the surface is well saturated from the start so that the floor is dirt-repellent and easy to clean. If you have houseplants on the floor, be aware that they are in pots not made of metal, as this can bring out the tannic acid in the oak.
Highly variable depending on the grade. Grades that contain more "life" will have more knots and fillings.
Oak is classified as a hardwood. Its durability is therefore good, but the surface requires maintenance to protect the wood.
Oil saturation:
Immediately after installation, the floor must be saturated with oil. Use Trip Trap Oil Care Natural or White, depending on whether the floor was supplied natural or white-pigmented from the factory. The floor must be treated with oil care once, after which you can move into your new Wiking floor as soon as the oil has cured according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Lacquer:
The lacquered surface is ready for use after installation.
Depending on the type of surface treatment you have, there will, of course, also be differences in ongoing maintenance.
Oiled floor:
We recommend that you maintain your oiled floor with Trip Trap Oil Care White once a year. If the floor is installed in a high-traffic area, such as a hallway or kitchen, you should expect it to need more frequent care than if the floor is in a bedroom.
Regular floor washing can often be done with clean lukewarm water or possibly Trip Trap Natural Soap White. You can advantageously wash the floor with Trip Trap Oil Soap every 4-5 washes to postpone the next oil treatment a bit, as this adds a little oil to the surface.
However, you should not use oil soap with every wash, as the wood can become oversaturated and develop a greasy oil layer, which will bind dust and dirt to the surface.
Lacquered floor:
Lacquered floors, like all other surfaces, require ongoing maintenance. It is recommended to place felt pads under chairs to minimize surface scratches. If the floor gets a scratch, you can advantageously treat it with Trip Trap Lacquer Care. The lacquer care does not remove the scratch but minimizes its appearance. If there is a break in the lacquer, it is very important that the damage is repaired as quickly as possible so that the lacquer is sealed and liquid cannot penetrate the wood. For floor washing, it is recommended to use Trip Trap Vinyl, Laminate, and Lacquer Soap. Follow the dosage instructions from the manufacturer.
Oak in modern and classic rooms
Oak flooring is widely used in both new architectural builds and classic renovations, precisely because the material is so versatile.
It serves as a neutral yet characterful base that can support both warm, dark, and light interior contrasts.
The gradings in the Oak series – including 3-strip, Atlantic, Country, Fenris, Freja, Living, Mammut, Natural, Pacific, and Select – allow for working with everything from a very calm and uniform look to a more lively and organic expression.
This makes oak one of the most flexible material choices in the entire collection.
