Mammoth
Choose from four distinctive wood types
The Mammoth series is available in several of Wiking Gulve's most sought-after wood species. Ash Mammoth combines the wood's lively structure and natural glow with impressive plank dimensions. Oak Mammoth adds warmth, classic elegance, and high durability, making it one of the most popular choices in the series.
Douglas Mammoth creates a bright and harmonious look with calm grain patterns that truly shine on large surfaces. Pitch Pine Mammoth highlights the wood's distinctive structure and golden hues in extra-wide planks, where the material's natural character receives maximum attention.
Each wood species adds its own expression, while the large dimensions are the common characteristic of the entire series.

The Mammoth series is Wiking Gulve's exclusive series of extra-wide and long planks.
Oak, Ash, Douglas, Pitch Pine
Thickness 22 mm, width 270 – 300 mm, length 2000 – 3500 mm
Freja and Fenris.
Delivered untreated and must be surface-treated after installation.
The wear layer is 4 mm as standard. Should it be necessary to refresh the floor by sanding, you should expect the wear layer to be reduced by 0.5 - 0.7 mm with a standard sanding, due to the refreshing of the floor. If there are marks, stains, a desire to change the surface, or other reasons for sanding, it may require a deeper sanding, which will further reduce the wear layer.
- Freja: is the grading with a muted expression in colors and structures. The grading appears with minor repairs, plugs, and beautiful knot play.
- Fenris: Fenris: is the beautiful and lively grading. This appears with prominent grain patterns, nature's color and knot play, as well as repairs and plugs.
Mammoth planks are a fantastic alternative to a solid wood floor. The long, exclusive planks are particularly striking in larger rooms with large windows and high ceilings.
Wiking's 3-layer construction reduces the natural movements in the wood. The cross-lamination makes the planks significantly more dimensionally stable, so that changes in your indoor climate do not have the same effect on the material as with traditional solid floors. We recommend full gluing of the mammoth planks to the subfloor, but the planks can also be installed on joists with a joist spacing of max. cc 60 cm.
Due to the dimensions and weight of the planks, please note that the installation itself may be more difficult.
It is crucial that the planks are surface-treated and saturated after installation. This ensures that the wood is protected and easier to clean.
Wood is a natural material, and no two planks are alike. Therefore, there will always be a beautiful variation in color and knot patterns. We always recommend that you carefully inspect the planks during installation to ensure the desired look on the finished surface.
Varies greatly depending on the type of wood and grading you choose.
Ash and oak are classified as hardwoods. Douglas fir and pitch pine are softer wood types, partly due to their sparse knots.
Your mammoth planks are delivered untreated from Wiking Gulve and must be surface-treated after installation and before use.
The planks are sanded with grit 150 and are ready for surface treatment in the form of lye and soap, oil or varnish (Please note that lye treatment will cause the wood to raise its grain, which may require fine sanding once the wood is dry).
We are naturally available to provide advice in this regard.
Just as there are differences in surface treatments, there will naturally also be differences in the subsequent ongoing maintenance and the intervals associated with it.
We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the chosen surface treatment to ensure the best care and maintenance for many years to come.
Extra wide and long planks with a strong presence
What's special about the Mammut series is the dimensions of the planks.
With widths of 270–300 mm and lengths of up to 3.5 metres, they create a look reminiscent of traditional solid plank floors, but with modern technical advantages.
The large dimensions result in a more cohesive floor layout with fewer joints and a strong visual impact. Especially in rooms with large window sections, open floor plans, and high ceilings, the qualities of the Mammut planks truly come into their own.
Here, the floor doesn't just become a surface, but a central part of the room's identity.
3-layer construction with modern stability
Although Mammut planks have dimensions reminiscent of traditional solid plank floors, they are constructed with Wiking Gulve's 3-layer construction.
The transverse middle layer significantly reduces the wood's natural movements compared to solid floors and creates a more dimensionally stable construction.
This construction makes the Mammut series particularly suitable for modern homes with underfloor heating and changing indoor climate conditions.
At the same time, the authentic expression that many associate with classic plank floors is preserved. The wear layer is 4 mm as standard, allowing for refreshing and sanding throughout the floor's lifetime.
A floor built for many years of use
The choice of wood species affects the floor's properties.
Oak and ash are classified as hardwoods and offer high wear resistance and great durability against daily use.
Douglas and Pitch Pine are softer wood species, which in turn contribute a particularly vibrant and natural expression.
Common to all Mammut floors is that the wood develops character over time. Small variations, patina, and natural changes are part of the experience of choosing a genuine wood floor.
Surface treatment after installation
Mammut planks are delivered untreated and must be surface-treated after installation and before use. This is crucial for the floor's protection, ease of cleaning, and long-term durability.
The planks are delivered sanded and ready for treatment with, for example, oil, lacquer, or lye, depending on the desired look.
Subsequent maintenance will vary depending on the chosen surface treatment, and we always recommend following the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance.
