Pine - Pinus Sylvestris
Wiking pine plank floors are made from selected logs from Northern Sweden. Here, the trees grow slower, thus achieving greater hardness.
A Wiking pine plank floor is warm and pleasant to walk on, and has a natural play with knots and rounded edges, which highlight the width of the beautiful planks. Pine is a classic and popular wood species for floors in Scandinavian homes, especially due to its light appearance and natural warmth.
When it comes to hardness, pine is among the softer wood species.

maintenance
Pine delivered from Wiking Gulve, which has been pre-treated with lye and white oil, must be saturated after installation.
Therefore, we recommend that the floor is oiled immediately after laying and before it is put into use.
We recommend that our care and maintenance guides are thoroughly reviewed before your floor is put into use.

Pine floor with warmth and natural variation
Pine is known for its vibrant expression and natural play of colours and knots. The shades range from light golden tones to deeper warm colours, which develop beautifully over time.
The knots are a natural part of the wood's identity and vary from floor to floor. Some grades appear calmer and more uniform, while others have a more distinct and rustic expression.
It is precisely this variation that gives pine floors their special atmosphere and makes them an integral part of a room's overall character.
A soft wood with a special comfort
Pine belongs to the conifer family and is a softer type of wood than, for example, oak and ash. This gives the floor a warm and pleasant feeling underfoot and creates a more organic connection with the material.
A pine floor will develop a patina over time and evolve naturally through use. Minor pressure marks and traces become part of the wood's history and contribute to its authentic expression.
At the same time, pine has a natural flexibility in its surface, where minor marks can often be reduced or lifted with proper maintenance and surface refreshment. This makes pine a material that ages gracefully rather than losing character.

3-layer construction – modern stability in classic wood
All Wiking Gulve pine floors are constructed as 3-layer plank floors, where stability and durability are integrated into the design. The middle layer is placed perpendicular to the wood grain, which reduces the wood's natural movement by up to 70% compared to traditional solid floors.
This construction makes the floor more stable, for example, in modern homes with varying temperature and humidity conditions, and makes it particularly suitable for underfloor heating. The wear layer consists of carefully selected high-quality pine, which gives the floor a long lifespan and the possibility of maintenance over the years.
The result is a floor that combines the classic look of solid plank floors with modern technical precision.

Lighthouses in Nordic architecture
Pine floors are often associated with Nordic home culture and work particularly well in rooms where light, warmth, and natural materials are key elements.
The light wood creates an open and calm base that works in both minimalist interiors and more traditional homes.
The grades in the Pine series – including Living, Nordlys, and Prima – offer various visual expressions, from calm and harmonious to more vibrant and natural.
Pine therefore fits just as naturally into modern new builds as it does into the renovation of older homes, where the material's authenticity is allowed to shine through.
A carefully selected material
At Wiking Gulve, we treat wood as a natural material that demands respect – both in its selection and in production.
We collaborate with experienced foresters and use raw materials from responsibly managed forests in the Nordic countries and Northern Europe.
Production combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to ensure high quality, long lifespan, and responsible resource utilization.
As part of this approach, we work with certifications such as FSC®, PEFC, and Cradle to Cradle Certified®.

Wiking pine plank floors are made from selected logs from northern Sweden. Here, the trees grow slower, thus achieving greater hardness. The planks are constructed in 3 layers with transverse intermediate layers of pine. This construction makes the planks suitable for underfloor heating and reduces the wood's natural movements by up to 70% compared to traditional solid plank floors.
Pine is a type of wood with beautiful variations in color and knots. The wood ages gracefully and adds a warm and cozy atmosphere to any room. It is the Danes' favorite wood for building materials and has been the safe choice for many happy customers.
Prima, Living, and Nordlys.
Untreated, lye & white oil, hard wax oil.
The wear layer is typically 4 – 9 mm depending on the plank thickness. Should it be necessary to refresh the floor by sanding, you can expect the wear layer to be reduced by 0.5 – 0.7 mm.
If there are visible signs of wear, stains, a desire to change the surface, or other reasons, it may require a slightly deeper sanding, which will further reduce the wear layer.
- The Prima grading has beautiful and natural knots and a few small fillings. Prima is the classic choice.
- The Living grading is a broader and more vibrant grading and may appear richer in resin content. In this grading, knots will be larger, and there will be more repairs and fillings compared to the Prima grading.
- Nordlys: this grading features a brushed surface where the softer parts of the wood have been removed to increase wear resistance. This creates a robust, structured surface that both feels and looks exclusive – ideal for both private homes and businesses.

In terms of hardness, pine is categorised as a softwood floor.
It is important that the surface is well saturated before use, so that the floor is dirt-repellent and easier to clean.
To ensure a functional and aesthetic floor, preserving the strength and visual integrity of the floor surface, this type of wood will feature filling of cracks and knots with specially adapted wood filler and/or hot melt. Similarly, missing knots can be replaced with fresh "new" knots adapted to the wood type, so that the color tone and structure are preserved.
On the Brinell scale, which measures the wood's resistance to pressure and wear, pine typically ranks around 1.6–1.8 – depending on its growing location and wood density. This means that pine is more susceptible to pressure marks, scratches, and other signs of wear in general than harder wood types such as oak or ash. Although pine is a soft wood type, many choose it for its natural charm and ability to beautifully patina over time. With the right treatment, you can extend the floor's lifespan and give it a surface that is more resistant to everyday use.
Highly varied – nature dictates. Pine is knotty, and no two planks are alike, but the knots are sound and fresh in color.
Pine floors can be reminiscent of other softwoods like Douglas or Pitch Pine. Like pine, they have warm, golden tones and distinctive grain patterns.
Pine is categorized as a softwood floor and is more susceptible to signs of wear. However, these marks are easy to rectify with maintenance, and often, most minor indentations can disappear with just a floor cleaning or oil refreshing.

Pine flooring supplied by Wiking Gulve, which has been pre-treated with lye and white oil, must be saturated after installation. The oil we use is a breathable oil, which means you, as a customer, have 2 choices regarding after-treatment and appearance.
Oil Saturation:
Immediately after installation, the floor must be saturated with oil. Use Trip Trap Oil Care White or Natural and follow the instructions on the container. The floor should be treated once, after which you can move into your new Wiking floor as soon as the oil has cured according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Soap Saturation:
Immediately after installation, the floor must be saturated with white pigmented soap.
Use Trip Trap Natural Soap White in a mixing ratio of 1:10. The floor should be washed 3 times over 2 days. This allows the wood to dry between treatments. After the third treatment and once the floor is dry, you can move into your new Wiking floor.
Of course, the ongoing maintenance also varies depending on the surface treatment you have chosen.
Oiled floor: We recommend that you regularly maintain your oiled floor with Trip Trap Surface Oil Care White once a year. If the floor is installed in a high-traffic area, such as a hallway or kitchen, you should expect it to need care more often than if the floor is in a bedroom.
Regular floor washing can usually be done with clean lukewarm water or possibly Trip Trap Natural Soap White. You can advantageously wash the floor with Trip Trap Oil Soap every 4-5 washes to postpone the next oil treatment a little, as you thereby add a little oil to the surface. However, you should not use the oil soap with every floor wash, as the wood can become oversaturated and develop a greasy oil layer, which will bind dust and dirt to the surface.
Soaped floor: To ensure continuous good saturation of the floor, we recommend that you wash the floor with Trip Trap Natural Soap White more often than if the wood was oil-saturated. Always follow the instructions on the container regarding the mixing ratio. If you feel that your floor is well saturated but needs cleaning, you can advantageously omit the soap and only use lukewarm water.
If you wish to lighten the surface, you can advantageously wash the floors with Trip Trap Natural Soap Extra White, as this contains more white pigment and will gradually lighten the surface. If you want to tone down the light color, you can use Trip Trap Natural Soap Natural or completely omit the soap from the wash water if the surface is already well saturated. Changing the color of the surface happens over time after repeated use of the soap.
