Specifications and guide
Mammut Fenris Ash – wide and long planks with a lively expression.
With an ash floor from Wiking Gulve, you get all the natural qualities of a solid wood floor – in an engineered solution. Our ash floors have rounded edges, which highlight the width of the individual planks and the exclusive look of the floor. The plank floors are made from exquisite Danish ash – a beautiful, light wood with a characteristic structure in brownish to reddish heartwood.
Wiking Gulve's exclusive Mammut series features extra wide and long planks – perfect for those who want a strong, distinctive, and natural expression in larger rooms with high ceilings.
The Fenris sorting is characterized by a lively and distinct expression, where grain patterns and knots are clearly visible. The planks may contain repairs and plugs, which gives a more raw, natural, and characterful floor – perfect for those who want a home with personality and warmth. If you prefer a more uniform and calm expression, then you should look at our Ash Freja Mammut.
Ash is a Nordic hardwood species, which makes it more resistant than softer wood species. At the same time, it has a unique glow and a natural play of colors, ranging from light tones to warm brownish and reddish nuances.
Your Mammut planks are delivered untreated from Wiking Gulve and must be surface-treated after installation and before use. We are, of course, available to provide good advice in this regard.
Due to the dimensions and weight of the planks, you should be aware that the installation itself may be more challenging. It is crucial that the planks are surface-treated and saturated after installation. This ensures that the wood is protected and easier to clean. Wood is a natural material, and no two planks are alike. Therefore, there will always be a beautiful variation in color and knot patterns. We always recommend that you carefully inspect the planks during installation to ensure the desired look on the finished surface.
Ash wood is known for its high wear resistance and is one of the hardest light wood species used for floors. On the Brinell scale, which measures wood hardness, ash typically scores around 3.6 - 3.8 – making it harder than both oak and pine. The high hardness makes ash floors particularly resistant to pressure marks, scratches, and daily wear. Ash is therefore an excellent choice for floors in high-traffic homes, families with children, or rooms where furniture is often moved around.
To ensure a functional and aesthetic floor, so that the strength and visual integrity of the floor surface are maintained, this wood species will feature filling of cracks and knots with specially adapted wood filler and/or hot melt. Similarly, fallen knots can be replaced with fresh "new" knots adapted to the wood species, so that color tone and structure are preserved.
The light color and clear grain of the wood give a modern look and at the same time hide minor scratches and dust better than dark floors. With the right treatment, an ash floor can remain beautiful for many years and retain its light and elegant appearance.
