Wiking Bøg - Ravnsborg by Jim Lyngvild
In his new design line featuring Nordic deity names, Jim Lyngvild starts with the model "Ravnsborg," named after the designer's own Viking fortress in South Funen.
I wanted to create something with a Danish touch, and I was directly inspired by our national anthem. In one of the verses, Oehlenschläger writes that our charming country stands with "Brede bøge" (broad beeches), so what could be more natural than to base it on this hard material, which is excellent for both natural floors and staining. I wanted a floor that had life and glow, with a lot of texture, so that you could see the wood's "veins," and therefore I stood by the saw myself when the beech trunks were cut into planks. Here, I exclusively selected the heartwood, which has a beautiful and lively grain, and these are what create the floor in Ravnsborg today. From an entire trunk approximately three meters in circumference, only a very small amount can be used.
It is therefore a costly affair to get a floor with exactly the right look, but then you also get a unique piece of art that only nature, and several hundred years of patience, can create. However, I also wanted the floor to have a deeper glow, so together with the staining experts at Wiking Gulve, we painted for several days to achieve the perfect rustic look, resembling something that had been lying and maturing, forgotten and hidden for many, many years. A Jim Lyngvild floor from Wiking Gulve is a gift. From the North, from the earth, and to you.
