Wiking Ask Country - Danish Building Agency
Henkel's former soap factory in Valby underwent extensive renovation between 2008 and 2014. Despite the financial crisis and the perfumed concrete slabs, the investors behind Henkel successfully completed the project.
Today, Henkel's former soap factory has bloomed with new busy offices in place of soap flakes.
The renovation project, in its touching simplicity, aimed to transform the old soap factory into attractive new office spaces. Today, the old factory buildings stand as a successful modern commercial development that now provides offices for the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority, as well as the Danish Building and Property Agency and the Danish Maritime Authority.
Throughout the entire preceding renovation phase, the primary focus was to preserve the factory building's industrial character while ensuring that the property would function in its new capacity in the future. Among the details, priority was given to retaining the old freight elevators, the water tower, and the hoist as charming decorations, just as the building's former open spaces have also been preserved.
From the client's perspective, it was essential from the outset to preserve the raw industrial look, which was supported by the choice of Ash Country wood flooring. With its varied structure and colors, featuring beautiful knot patterns and fillings, it fully lived up to the rustic surroundings. Wiking Gulve supplied a total of 17,000 m2 of wood flooring for this project.
